Black women die at a rate of three to four times that of white women in this country and Black babies are still more likely twice as likely to die before the first birthday. In Virginia, the preterm birth rate among Black women is 53% higher than the rate among all other women. Many structural, systemic, and environmental factors influence the health of mothers and babies, especially for Black, Native, and Hispanic people.
